Greenwave Project

We have registered for the Greenwave Project. Click the picture above to read more about it.
What is Greenwave all about?
Greenwave is all about identifying the signs of Spring in our local environment. We must keep an eye out for as many as we can of the six important species; frogspawn, ash tree, horse-chestnut, swallow, primrose and hawthorn tree, near our school. We can use the Spotter's Guide (found on greenwave.ie) to help us with this. The guide gives us the information that we need to record when we are going out to observe the species.

Once we've made our sightings we must submit them here »
Recording Weather
There are a number of additional activities which we are also participating in, related to measuring the weather. We are measuring the average temperature, the average rainfall and the wind speed in the Cloontuskert area.

Wind Speed Task
Recently we had the task of designing and making our own instrument to measure windspeed, an anemometer. We will measure the windspeed on a weekly basis.
Here we are testing out our anemometers to make sure they are working correctly.

Rain Gauge Task
We also made our own rain gauges to measure the rainfall on a daily basis. We are recording our findings every morning. We pour the rainfall we have gathered into a graduated cylinder and measure it.

Temperature Task
Everyday at noon the temperature in the playground is recorded.
The pupils from the Junior Room enjoy finding out what the day's temperature is.
