Italy

The children have been learning about Italy recently. The enjoyed learning about famous Italian people like Leonardo De Vinci who painted the Mona Lisa and Carlo Collodi who wrote the story of 'Pinocchio'. Their favourite Italian however would have to be Andrea Bocelli which I'm sure has nothing to do with his recent duet with Ed Sheeran!! They learnt about Italian Food, climate and places of interest such as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Pompeii and Rome to name but a few. The were really excited to hear the story of Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii and even made their own volcanoes! They also picked up a few Italian words which they can use if they ever visit!

Water

The Statue of Liberty
We learned that the Statue of Liberty is in New York and it is 100 years old. It was made in France. It is made of copper but the flame is made from 24 karat gold. It took 9 years to make the statue. The statue has 25 windows in it's crown and 354 stairs in it. The statue was used as a lighthouse long ago. The statue is holding a torch and a book. The book has July 4th written on it. This is the day the Americans got their independence.

The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is in India. An emperor built it as a tomb for his favourite wife when she died. It is built from marble and decorated with precious jewels. It took 1000 elephants and 22,000 men 22 years to make the Taj Mahal. The emperor is now buried there with his wife.

You better watch out it's Halloween in Cloontuskert N.S.!!

We had a Halloween dress up day at school. I dressed up as a zombie. Tanya, Molly and Shauna dressed up as a witch. Martina dressed up as a devil. I ate freaky eye ball sweets. Our class made a spell, I put vampire blood into the cauldron. Our spell was a good spell, sweets came out of the cauldron. I loved dressing up in my freaky costume and having loads of sweets!

There's great support in Cloontuskert N.S. for St. Faithleach's!

It was fun making the St. Faithleach's bands. Mr. O'Gorman's class showed us how to make them. We used pencils and red and white wool. We made bracelets, headbands, and necklaces. I made a wrist band and a headband. I wore them to the match. I really liked the match.

We made a hedgehog house!

We made a big pile of leaves. We collected all the leaves to make a hedgehog house. We needed gloves to pick up the leaves incase our hands got wet and filthy! We had fun collecting all the leaves. I hope a hedgehog will like our house.

By James, Senior Infants

We hope you enjoy our story 'The Magic Fairy'!

The magic fairy

One day I was walking in the woods when suddenly something magical happened. A fairy called Katie and a fairy godmother came. The fairy godmother spoke to me. She said, ‘why are you walking in the woods, the fox might catch you’. I said, ‘I am walking in the woods because I am going to have a picnic’. Suddenly the fox came and I smacked him with my picnic basket. The cross fox bit me. The fairy turned the fox into a frog. She had rescued me. The fox wanted revenge. He took the fairy godmother’s wand and turned her into a frog. Then he turned himself back into a big angry fox. Then he ate the frog. Afterwards he walked away through the forest. As he walked through the forest he saw a little hedgehog. The hedgehog was asleep. The fox woke the hedgehog up. The hedgehog chased the fox. The fox ran home and he locked the door. A huntsman had seen what had happened earlier that day. He broke in the window and chopped the fox into pieces. The frog hopped out of the foxes tummy and the fairy called Katie turned the frog back into the fairy godmother. She was happy and so was I.
