Creative Writing
My name is Bobby and I am in 1st class. I am 7 years old. I have been very busy working hard all year. I did lots of creative writing and practicing sounds. My favourite story that I wrote is The Chinese Restaurant. It is about a rich family who visit a Chinese Restaurant. They ordered lots of food and beverages. When they had finished they paid with a check. They really enjoyed their meal.
Spring is here!
Spring began on the 1st February and the children have been identifying signs of spring around our school. Jake and Molly from Senior Infants saw lots of buds on the trees and spring flowers beginning to grow. We saw snowdrops under the trees near our bird feeders as we fed the birds recently.
Sports

Since September we have had a very busy start to our sporting year in the school. it is fantastic to see so many of the children involved in all types of sporting endeavours. From the G.A.A to Athlethics, from Rugby to Martial Arts the pupils of Cloontuskert continue to be involved in a myriad of different codes and we are proud of all their achievements. Well done to all those who participated and in many cases succeeded in performing at a very high level.
Our past pupils also continued to make us proud with some fantastic achievements, two in particular came to my notice in recent months . Congratulations to Sarah on being part of the Roscommon team who lost the U16 B All Ireland by the narrowist of margins. Their 1 point loss was heartbreaking but i'm told that many of the panel are under age again next year so good luck to them . We would love to see one of our own bringing the cup back to the school, up to you now Sarah.
Jack also had a great year in the Creggs and CBS colours and has im told begun to advance on the Connacht Elite Player pathway. A trip to South Africa with Connacht U17s in 2017 seems to be on the cards at this stage. Longfords soccer loss has definately been to Connachts gain.

The children from 3rd ,4th ,5th and 6th classes competed in the cross country competition and they all did very well. They had a great day out and hopefully learned a lot about this type of running. For many of them it was the first time they ran at this level and they were up against other children who had trained specially for the event.

Last week we were invited to Lanesboro Community College to see the transition year show. We had a great day and we were thrilled to see so many past pupils taking part in the show , Well done to all the puplis and staff who produced such a fine performance. When we came back we continued with our own preparations for Christmas and having heard the children prepare I'm sure that in the near future the children of Cloontuskert will continue to have starring roles in many productions in their secondary schools when they get there.
REVIEW OF TALISMAN SERIES 1 - 4th CLASS
Over the past number of weeks, Dylan, Jack and Éimhin from 4th Class have been busy working on a special project - reviewing The Talisman Book Series which they completed recently.
The boys decided to divide out the 10 books and review a number of books individually. The pupils had to read each book again to recall all the details, write the review, edit it and finally type it on the school laptops.
In addition to the above, the pupils decided to write a short dictionary with specific words in the Series, for example - Mongoose, Manticore, Pangolin. The boys also drew pictures of the three main characters - Zak, Mim and Grampa.
Check out the pupils great work on the display boards in the school corridor.
Well done on your hard work Dylan, Jack and Éimhin! We are looking forward to reading the second series of The Talisman!

KING/QUEEN OF TABLES - 1st CLASS
The 1st Class work with Mrs Collins everyday for Maths . Each Maths lesson is started by playing the Tables game - Bang, Bang! The pupils are doing very well learning their tables and the daily winner is the King/Queen of the Tables. There is great excitement and competition everyday to see who the King/Queen will be. We have an overall Tables Champion on a Friday. Keep up the great work learning your tables 1st Class!
LEARNING TO TIE OUR SHOE LACES
We worked really hard learning to tie our shoe laces.
OUR SPRING FLOWERS
We were delighted when our spring flowers came into bloom.
THE BUD RACE
PLANTING SPRING BULBS
The pupils were very busy recently, planting a selection of daffodils, crocus and snow drops to add colour to our school garden in spring.
The pupils also planted some fruit trees (apples and plums), some lavender plants, and to finish off, some heather plants at the entrance to the mini wood. We have brilliant gardeners in Cloontuskert NS.
